Today I want to talk about running Facebook ads and whether you should run ads when you're starting your business.
Most marketers that you see on social media like to talk about running Facebook ads as though they will be the key to your success in business and that anybody can do it. But, the truth is without any knowledge or experience you may lose a lot of money at the beginning.
When you're just starting your business and even if you're already experienced in business I want to tell you that running Facebook ads can be good but what most coaches do is they run ads instead of contacting people.
The reality is if you run paid ads you will get a lot of people to be interested in what you do but at some point you're going to have to talk to them over the phone. In my group consulting program I discourage coaches at the beginning of their business from running any sort of ads because most haven't got experience yet selling.
Many coaches at the beginning with their businesses have not figured out yet what they're really doing and they haven't yet figured out the problem that they're trying to solve with their clients yet so why would someone run an ad if they don't really know what their offer to parents is yet?
If you don't know how to talk to people with a phone it's because you don't practice. Using your phone and talking to people is a skill that you build over time and there's nothing that is going to be worse for your business than if you spend money running ads and then you get a prospect on the phone and you sound nervous because you don't know what to say.
When you don't know how to close people over the phone you're going to think well that didn't work so this business isn't going to work for me and then now you have a bad association with the business because you tried running ads, but the truth is that the problem wasn't the ads, it was the lack of sales skills of talking to people over the phone.
Once you have your sales skills on lockdown I would say yeah you should now run ads because now you have more cash flow and you know how long your clients are going to be in your program and you have recurring payments set up which means you're running your business like a business and not just like some new person trying to run ads on the internet which is where a lot of coaches fail.
