If you are looking to start and scale your private basketball training business, we've created this free video here on our YouTube channel that will give you more insight about how to get started:
See you there coach,
(Founder of www.buildmysportsbiz.com)
It was a couple summers ago…I got a call from Coach Mackenzie.
At the time, she had no clients, no website, no nada…
She had the dream and desire to help kids in her town within the sport of soccer.
Whether you coach soccer or a different sport, you’ll want to keep reading…
So when we were on the phone…I could tell instantly that she just needed to get the ball rolling. She had a bunch of ideas…but needed clarity on what to do and how to get started…
She needed to hear from someone else who has successfully started and scaled a business.
That’s where I came in.
After a few phone calls, I helped guide her in the right direction with what the steps she needed to take.
Let’s just say…Coach Mackenzie is an action taker.
She followed immediately and laid the foundation to her business...
and very quickly....
I see instagram and Facebook posts all the time stating:
“You’re not working enough”
“You have to Work 60 hours a week”
“You gotta sacrifice everything to become successful”
My opinion on this subject is radically different.
Why would you want to sacrifice time with family and friends just to work all day.
I get the message though - because I LOVE to work, but I know when it’s time to shut it down each day now.
Here’s what you won’t see me do:
You won’t see me grinding at the fields every week training players.
You won’t see me working through the night to finish up my next project.
I’ve realized over the last 10 years…time is very important.
You can waste time throughout the day doing things that don’t improve your business.
You can spend a couple of focused hours per day moving your business forward 10x.
I’ve seen this personally not only in my own business, but also with the...
This is hard to share publicly…but if you take this message to heart, it will help you.
In 2010, I was making around $1700/month with my private training business.
I ran my company (like most people do these days) accepting cash or checks.
I was a single dude who had very little bills to pay…and I’m a very frugal person with money so $1700 was a lot of money to me that I was making.
The problem happened on June 4th, I’ll never forget that day.
Mr. Kelly forgot to pay me for the month of training at our session. I told him:
“Oh, you can just bring it next week Mr. Kelly”
Mr. Kelly drove off in his range rover…and that was the last time I saw him.
He owed me $400.
The next week on a Friday I ran into another problem.
I had a H.S. group of girls I was training - and I allowed all of the parents to “pay by the session”
I had 12 girls signed up.
On day 1 (12 showed up, but only 2 parents paid)
The next session we had, only 2...
Every Friday, I take out my phone or my computer and go LIVE on Facebook.
If you told me I'd be shooting live videos a couple years ago I would've laughed in your face and say:
NO FREAKING WAY
Here's the deal...each coach out there has the ability to share what they know with their local or worldwide community.
The internet brings people closer together...You can use it to your advantage.
20 years ago you would've had to pay thousands of dollars for ads and the chance of getting on television would be very slim...especially for a guy like me who is introverted.
So now we live in the era where you can create your own media. I recommend to all the coaches in our mastermind that they start going LIVE more on Facebook or Instagram with short 3-5 minute videos that go into detail about subjects that are appealing to parents.
All you need is your phone or computer to pull this off...the best part about it...
It's 100% FREE to use (how cool is that)
Hey Coach, today - I’m laying a 30 day challenge for you.
It’s something I still do to this day, and I think you will get a lot of benefit from this.
So here’s what it is:
Over the next 30 days - I want you to connect with 3 people in your local town that have influence over parents or kids.
This could be an email, FB message, Insta message, phone call or take someone to lunch.
The point I want to drive home here - is start making connections with people of influence.
Here’s 4 reasons why I want you to do this:
1) If you take action - you will get in front of 90 people who will know, like and trust you. Those 90 people (if they have influence over parents and kids) will open the doors to so many connections in your city…. = more clients for you
2) Doing this exercise will give you more self-confidence with what you are doing. I don’t care how shy or confident you are - this will make you ultra-confident within 30 days.
3) Your communication...
My name is Benjamin Nabers and I’m a soccer entrepreneur.
When I was first starting out on my entrepreneurial journey…
I cared a lot about what my competition was doing.
In fact, I’d say I was pretty obsessive about it…
Every day for about 1 year I studied my competitors websites, prices and marketing material.
It was the quickest way I was going to learn.
I would try to copy and model everything that my competitors did.
It worked well, very well…
…and it gave me a great foundation to start, but I soon realized that I was becoming them, not me.
Here’s the deal.
Modeling success is important.
Being someone else is not fulfilling.
You will constantly be comparing yourself to the next person/business.
It isn’t fun.
It made me ask myself a very important question…
“How was I going to separate myself from the pack & how can I be different”?
Instead of continuing down the path of “doing what other people...
Growing up playing the game of soccer, I was blessed having some of the top coaches in the country for a successful soccer club in Austin, Texas. Making the hour and a half drive from San Antonio 3 times a week for 5 years was a huge commitment for me and my family, but I knew that it gave me the best possible chance to get a college scholarship.
I knew with my background of playing collegiate soccer and coaching high level club teams that I could offer something unique to players on an individual level. I started to notice that clubs and independent teams were not teaching the players the technical skills they needed to know to play at the competitive youth level and wanted to change that myself.
I was lucky having some of the best coaches growing up and realized that the majority of players don’t get that kind of coaching on a personal level. I wanted to help players understand the technical aspect of soccer at an early age so that they can stay with soccer throughout high...
